Haryana Government on Friday earmarked Rs 829.23 crore for Panchkula’s development in 2026-27, with Rs 812.60 crore allocated for capital works, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Friday. The spending will focus on infrastructure, drainage, roads, urban environment, civic services and technology-driven management under the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA).
 
Saini said the government was pursuing long-term urban planning to meet Panchkula’s growing needs while ensuring that ongoing projects were completed within deadlines.
 
A major focus is the modernisation of Panchkula’s nearly 45-year-old drainage network. Under a pilot project, a 900-mm storm-water drain from Geeta Chowk to Town Park has been rehabilitated at a cost of Rs 5.50 crore using Machine Wound Spiral Lining technology. Work has now begun on strengthening the drainage system from Town Park to Singh Nala Choe at an estimated cost of Rs 38.87 crore.
 
The overall budget includes Rs 449.23 crore for infrastructure development, Rs 270.59 crore for operations and maintenance, and Rs 41.83 crore for urban environment-related works.
 
Saini said environmental protection would remain integral to urban development. The Rs 41.83-crore provision will support green spaces, parks and environment-related works. Treated water from proposed sewage treatment plants will be reused for parks and green belts. Administrative approval has been granted for a 10 MLD STP in Sector 7C at Rs 24.60 crore and a 6 MLD STP in Sector 5C at Rs 28.49 crore.
 
Fourteen roundabouts have been beautified, while seasonal plantations and flower beds have been developed along major roads.
 
The government is also advancing a proposal for a technology-based Integrated Command and Control Centre, estimated to cost Rs 208 crore, to improve monitoring of urban services and administrative systems.
 
A world-class shooting sports complex is being developed in Sector 32. Though administrative approval was initially accorded for Rs 173.48 crore, the tender amount was finalised at about Rs 109.80 crore after negotiations. Work began on June 16 and is targeted for completion within 24 months.
 
Saini said road improvement, traffic management, and civic amenities were also being strengthened through completed and ongoing projects. “The objective is not merely to expand cities, but to provide citizens with better, safer, cleaner, and modern urban amenities,” he said, directing officials to ensure quality, transparency, and timely execution.
 
The Chief Minister said the development strategy was aimed at building “future-ready cities”, with citizen convenience at the centre of planning.
